Supervision in the context of counselling is a supportive relationship in which the supervisor can help you reflect on all dimensions of your practice.

Supervision

As a supervisor I want to meet the varied needs of my supervisees in a person-centred way. In any one session I aim to provide a safe space in which there are possibilities to support, mentor, teach, affirm, challenge, facilitate reflection and, when appropriate, raise and explore ethical issues.

I offer supervision to both newly-qualified and experienced counsellors, counsellors in training and counselling psychology students. I am on the approved list of supervisors at the Counselling Unit, University of Strathclyde. I also supervise counsellors working from other theoretical models who are specifically looking for person-centred supervision.

As the supervisor/supervisee relationship is important, counsellors will generally want to 'shop around' for a supervisor with whom they feel comfortable. With this in mind, I invite potential supervisees to free half-hour introductory meeting. Our time together will create the opportunity for you to tell me what you are looking for in supervision, a little about your own background and level of experience and the type of clients you see. I will answer any questions you may have about me and my way of working and you can then decide in your own time whether you wish to enter into a supervision contract with me.
